| Description | First hospital in the world with distributed 3D and 4D image processing | With its support for "An Image and Data Management System for the Hospital of Aalborg" the IT Lighthouse makes sure that the Hospital of Aalborg will make a quantum leap into the future of integrated medical image processing. This makes the Hospital of Aalborg the first hospital in the world where users can access 2D, 3D, and 4D images via the Hospitals' network and analysis tools, which are stored on a central server for graphics.
As an important part of the image processing, a new integrating system is installed, capable of unifying all the remaining applications of the hospital in a structured and clear interface.
The principle of medical image processing, also referred to as "Picture Archive Communication System" is laid out in the illustration below : | | Today 10 pct. of all hospitals have a PACS system installed for image processing. Experience proves this to be lengthy, costly and demanding on resources.
The basic idea and structure of the new system is so significantly different and innovative that installation time including special developing is scheduled to be 6 months - and even without preying too much on the staff.
One of the crucial items has been that in 90 pct. of all cases the patient is only "One mouseclick away".
Also the accumulation of knowledge for learning , e.g. related to E-learning plays an important role in the project. | In addition to the Hospital of Aalborg, the following organisations take part in the project:
