| Description | The object of the project is to offer an easy to use, Web based site where the citizens of North Denmark can book an appointment and request an extended prescription with their general practicioning doctor.
The project has its commitment in the needs of each citizen and will focus on the individual. The citizens are offered a very tangible improvement of service in their everyday contact with the general practicioner and hence in their dialog with the public health service.
The improvement in services is obtained by offering the citizens a new way to book an appointment with the doctor when it fits in their daily schedules, rather than the present conditions where most people have to phone between 8 and 9 in the morning. This will be a relief in particular to the daily lives of families with young children who are already fighting a very tight daily schedule.
Improvements in service are also obtained in relation to an online extension of prescriptions, a simple and convenient way of handling routine extensions of prescriptions. Citizens can request an extension of a prescription whenever it fits in, and specify to which pharmacy the prescription should be submitted. Also it can be specified whether the user might want the medicine to be delivered from the chemist's to his or her home.
Also the general practitioners will benefit greatly from the project. The general practitioners' consultancy is being established on the Internet to create a new way of communication with the citizens. For example, this channel can be used for the announcement of business hours, offers for patients, hours for a special type of consulting, holidays etc. As for the booking of appointments, it is a much more convenient way of indicating the type of cases in which consulting your doctor would be appropriate. Both examples can help reducing the workload of the consultancy secretary.
The introduction of online booking of appointments and requests for extension of prescription allows the practicioners to take in consultancies at any appropriate time during the day. Also this allows an improved distribution of the workload between the doctors of the consultancy, the nurse and the secretary.
Booking of appointments and prescription extension is offered via the Sundhed.dk, the new great health portal of Denmark (for more information see http://www.sundhed.dk/servlet/forside). Along with the specific services citizens can access a wealth of independent, reliable and well presented professional knowledge of health. Also they can access the wealth of other health related services on Sundhed.dk now and in the future. This results in significant benefits and a synergetic effect to citizens as well as doctors consultancies.
The services directed towards the citizens will abide to the MedCom standards of the field. At present these standards are under preparation, and Sundhed.dk plays an active role in this work. This means that the citizen related services can be offered to all providers of medical consultancy systems, and thus on a long term basis be made available to all Danish citizens.
So to citizens and IT providers the project will act as a unifying and standardising entity in a sector, with a traditionally very fragmented supply of IT-service offers and facilities. |
