| Description | In its basic version the ABDD Portal is a meeting point collecting information related to children and their activities in the local area to be used by everybody involved for dialogues and locally based democracy.
Examples of contents are manyfold:
The school board meets on a regular basis. The ABDD Portal will be the natural fulcrum of a dialogue between the board and other parents. A means of a digital dialog on items to be dealt with, a means of information on meetings, summaries from meetings.... The kindergarten, too, has a board of parents.
The Sports Club and other associations have boards...
The school magazine has turned into a multimedia with a dynamic updating via the ABDD Portal with news and information via e-mails / SMS-messaging services. The Publishing & Editing team consisting of both children and teachers is spending a lot of time on putting the latest potentials of technology to use in the design of this
multimedia "e-zine". This is quite a pedagogical and learning achievement of the ABDD Portal in its own right.
The child entering its 1rst school year. The Entry Form - populated with the details already obtained by the school administration from the kindergarten - is easily accessed, and using a digital signature the processing can be managed with a few clicks via e-mail after the children's bedtime. An acknowledgement of the entry can be executed just as easily. It's all on the ABDD Portal.
The Sports Club's 2. handball team is in for a series of away matches over the
winter season. What is the fixture list looking like? How is transport managed?
How is the team rostered? What is the scoring from previous matches looking like?
Which companies are sponsoring the club - they'll have their link on the portal. The ABDD portal will be a natural informational channel in the dialogue among the voluntary trainers of the Club, the children and their parents.
The school spare time institution, known as the SFO, is based on a "punch card" system for 4th grade and onwards. Entry in the place allotment is done using a digital form, with details of siblings and the related discounts. The dialogue between parents and administration concerning this happens via the ABDD Portal.
Subsequently the dialogue between the administration and the pedagogues is routed via ABDD Portal.
Within the municipality it has been decided to gather all 10th grades on one school. In addition a cooperation has been established with the neighbouring municipality to gather its 10th grades on that same school. The headmaster intends to utilize the Internet as a media for a dialogue on all the activities related to the school. Between pupils and teachers. Between teachers and parents. Between schools and the industrial sector. Here the ABDD Portal becomes a central "IT-communicational infrastructure" in the establishing and support of this digital 10th grade school. Here parents, children and
professionals are often geographically scattered making it even more difficult to provide a relevant coordination on a daily basis - the portal will become a vital instrument for supporting the dialogue and democracy over wide geographic distances.
The ambition of the ABDD Portal is to create an entry and exit with children, activities, dialogue and democracy as a main theme using the leading technology - www and mobiles.
The school timetable will be an organic part of the ABDD Portal. Direct links to the school's administrative scheduling and administration of pupils allow updatings. Of course details which are identifiable as related to a specific person should be protected with relevant security systems and procedures.
Examples are manyfold. . . . The project should survey and try out the potentials and the technologies.
Even though most Danish homes have Internet access, and while there is a cell phone in almost everybody's pocket, surveys establish that predominantly kids and their parents are putting this technology to practical use. Exactly these IT active Danes make the target group of the ABDD Portal.
The target group, - maybe the parents in particular - is characterised by too little available time, at least for meeting in during "normal hours" of institutions and associations, and also they are characterized by making intense use if IT in their professional lives. Therefore the target group finds it a natural thing to utilize state of the art IT - around the clock - for matters concerning activities, children, dialogue and democracy.
The object is to make the target group - including the children - feel like linking up to the ABDD Portal for dialogues concerning activities. The object is to give the local democracy an IT based channel of communication. This way also the IT passive segment of the target group will be focused on. The dissemination of the concept is to be discussed in detail. |
