| Description | Goal
The goal is to give the physically and psychologically challenged residents of the institution the IT skills that will make them more fit to make use of the potentials of a network society.
We want to establish an internal network and intranet shared by the residents of a rehabilitation centre for young brain-injured pupils (The ØSTERSKOVEN Therapeutic Centre ) in order to train the use of information technology in a protected environment, thereby enhancing the skills of the inhabitants in using the open information society.
We want to make use of an internal network in a pedagogical environment to train and develop more skills for an independent everyday life using information technology with a consideration for individual physical and intellectual impairments. We want to enhance the opportunity of each inhabitant, to independently obtain information about everyday matters.
The information on the pupils' Intranet could be things like:
-The timetable of each pupil - + any changes to the plan
-The menu for next week
-The calendar of the group with birthdays, holidays etc.
-Photo album + video library (home video) from events shared by the group.
-The duty roster of the staff, converted to information understandable to the individual, e.g. staff pictures + sound.
In addition, information on the Internet could be taken in on an individual scale with consideration for hobbies and overview, e.g.:
-The TV programme
-Events in town
-Soccer matches
-News information: For example: Newspapers, weeklies, TV home pages.
-Special interests: E.g. pop groups, soccer associations etc.
-Favourite home pages
Apart from finding information, the net can be used for executing everyday functions, eg.
-Home banking
-Ordering groceries
-Ordering handicap driving with the public buses or the Danish Railways Handicap Help
-Communication via e-mail
-Participation in conferences on the net -
The Intranet could be used for:
- training in using e-mail in a protected environment by letting the pupils send each other mails.
- Common projects. For example a residents' magazine, a home page, a photo album
The user interface should allow customizing to each pupil's requirements and skills, both in the physical operation (special keys, mouse etc.) and in the functionality of the user interface.
Apart from individual results for the residents the project aims to result in pedagogical methods for using IT in the daily life within an institution.
Which education and which procedures will be required for the pedagogical staff on an institution to maintain and operate a pupils' Intranet as a tool in their pedagogical practice. The above compared to the software and hardware solutions required.
