Electronic Patient Case Sheet
Organisational development |
| Project start | 16 February 2001 |
| Project end | 01 July 2001 |
| Description | The goal of the project is to make the introduction of the Electronic Patient Case Sheets (EPJ - Elektronisk Patient Journal) in the Thorax Surgical Dept. of the Hospital of Aalborg more efficient and flexible by means of e-learning.
At present experience from other parts of the country bears witness that introducing an Electronic Patient Case Sheet and changing procedures is very demanding on the staff.
In a working environment where there is generally no tradition for using IT for learning, and where IT qualifications are generally shallow, employing e-learning makes part of the general goal of the project.
Another goal of the project is to combine the training of basic computer skills and skills in using EPJ on an individual level with education in procedures on an organisational level.
E-learning has never previously been used as part of an implementation strategy within the hospital service of North Denmark. In stead of introducing the Electronic Patient Case Sheet and educating staff the traditional way, the training is done by means of a computer.
The educational programme is downloaded from the Internet, and each employee can then receive training at the time it fits into the daily routines, or at home. The education offers several individual considerations, being not just standardized training, but training adapted to the skills and requirements of each employee.
The educational module offers the opportunity for each employee to make purposeful selections of the modules he or she wants to train, and on which level. The structuring of the educational modules should make sure that each employee makes a natural and progressive educational course combining a variety of ways of learning. Also it should enable educators to make sure that each employee completes the modules required and scheduled.
Experience from this project can be put to use in other educational institutions within the County of North Denmark. |
