DescriptionIn the future the visually impaired people and their relations with computer and Internet access will have an easier access way to the institute for impaired vision and other visually impaired citizens in general.

Over the next three years the institute for impaired vision will establish the following five digital services:

1. An on-line questions and answers site where users and their relations can ask personal and general questions. Personal questions will be answered via direct e-mail
by a relevant professional from the institute for impaired vision, while general questions and answers will be published to the Internet for the benefit of everyone visiting the home page of the institute for impaired vision.

2. On line videoconferences for users and their relations are intended as a parallel to the open house events offered by the institute for impaired vision including a guidance session with a sight consultant. The intention is to make this service available whenever it suits the user and his relations, and consequently the site will be featuring an on-line booking calendar for scheduling a guidance session.

3. On line distance learning facilities for professionals based on on-line live video conferences. Here teachers, pedagogues, social workers, home care workers and others working in the primary municipality can sit in via the Internet on short subject specific courses at work, based on presentations by specialized professionals from the the institute for impaired vision. Subsequently the subject can be discussed and elaborated in a plenum.

4. A digital videoconference room for subject related conferences and meetings with colleagues, Danish as well as international. By making use of the new technological facilities, a lot of coordinating tasks can be resolved in an efficient and flexible way, and knowledge can be developed and exchanged across borders.

5. The user forum The Digital Meet- and Hang Out Site for the visually impaired. This will include an E-Zine for the visually impaired. Today many visually impaired will have the facilities to process written material in magnifying applications or have it read aloud via synthetic speech.
By establishing an E-Zine for the visually impaired, a forum will be provided which will filter out the news of special relevance to its users from the total news bombardment. Apart from the news, advertisements, reader's letter etc. will be included.
Also chat and talk rooms will established for the visually impaired to log onto various chat rooms of a more conventional nature and this way offering a way to get in touch with other visually impaired people. Talk rooms are intended to create a forum for visually impaired people to meet on the Web and communicate in groups.
