DescriptionBackground
To prevail in international competition, enterprises experience an ever increasing pressure to come up with initiatives to enhance productivity in many areas within the enterprise. Several surveys prove that the most successful enterprises are those with a constant focus on improvements, - using the capability of making quick and frequent changes as one of their most important competitive parameters in industrial manufacturing.
With a background in several years of work and studies in industrial production we experience the following significant needs and challenges:

Development of new methods and tools to support the concept development of the enterprises

Accurate and actualised enterprise resource management systems

Organisational learning, consolidation and dissemination

The very capability of combining technological elements and human resources has often been defined as intelligent production, in which the capability of delivering a high productivity is combined with the capability of flexible response to changing condtions.

Idea and purpose
The idea of this project is to develop new methods and tools for dynamic simulation with the objective of supporting and developing ”intelligent production”. In its fundamental form, simulation has been used as a tool in production development for many years, predominantly, however, with the largest enterprises using simulation, primarily for technical projects.
The purpose of the project is to test and develop dynamic simulation in a North Denmark based network involving 6 small and medium-sized enterprises in North Denmark and the Department of Production and Center for Industrial Production of Aalborg University. Development and test of dynamic simulation will take place in 3 tiers (development, implementation and operation):

Concept development, including a tool for analysis, development and test of new concepts.

Production management, including the creation of the ”Intelligent Planning System”/”Real-time Simulator” with integrating interfaces to the simulation system and the ERP system.

Learning and visualising including the utilisation of visual and virtual effects in 3D-simulation for training, learning and communication of changes.

The realisation of the project is intended to both secure the actual competitive enhancements of the enterprises and to utilise and carry on the experience and systems in the research environment of North Denmark
