| Description | The goal of the project is partly one of developing applications and business procedures, to connect the customer
and the e-business portals with the indispensable intermediary link: Transport, and partly to provide the user of transport and logistics services with an easy to use access to choosing and ordering a carrier over the Internet on a common Internet platform for providers of transport and logistics – in their daily lives referred to as haulage contractors.
The haulage contractors will also use the common Internet platform to create a virtual forum among the haulage contractors for a better utilisation of resources and vehicle capacity. Today the trucks are only utilizing approx. 50% of their load-/load compartment capacity in terms of statistics meaning that every other truck is driving around with no cargo.
Via state of the art technological tools and the introduction of co-ordinated business procedures and network collaboration the haulage companies in the county of North Denmark will have the opportunity of an intensified utilisation of capacity and consequently to obtain an increased efficiency and thereby remaining independent enterprises. The benefit for society will be a significant reduction of the impact on the environment.
The project includes a gigantic educational boost of the transport industry on the IT field. In addition to the participating companies developing their IT platforms as well as the IT knowledge and skills of their employees, educational applications will be developed for a future use to lift the qualifications of other transport and logistics enterprises in the IT field.
The Perspectives of the Project
The project is taking a natural focus on solutions for transport and logistics i relation to E-Business. Since physical things can not move from manufacturer to dealer and from there to the consumer via Internet connectivity, the need for transportation and logistics is a natural and critical parameter in the planning and execution of succesfull E-Business.
To achieve a wide coverage of the transport area, the long term plan is to involve the haulage contractors in the county of North Denmark who will participate in a network co-operation to give Danish haulage contractors better odds in the competition for customers, where we are experiencing an increasing competition from countries with lower wage levels than Denmark. Finally the project will offer obvious benefits for the customers and improve their overview and access to choose their carrier.
The project will optimise relations and hence the earning - between start- and end customers in the transport and e-business process via the necessary practical link between the parties: The Road Carriers. |
