Better Public Service – Secured

The application of IT enables all new ways of civil servicing  - and enabling citizens to help themselves! However, it takes creative thinking, for it must happen at no further expenses, and must be quick and easy to use for the citizens.

Already today the citizens are used to help themselves in a range of fields. Just look at the capabilities of ordering books etc. via the websites of the public libraries, or the self service solutions offered by the tax authorities, or the 1.5 mill. Danes doing home banking today. Such self-service offers would be obvious to offer the public within the services provided by the municipalities and counties. And this is exactly the challenge taken up by some of the administrational projects of the Digital North Denmark. For example three municipalities of North Denmark (those of Skagen, Frederikshavn and Skørping) are offering 24-hour access to electronically enabled self-service for the most common services. Likewise the municipality of Aalborg is enabling citizens to monitor their own tax cases, and the county of North Jutland is providing access to a range of self service solutions to citizens and businesses, for example access to filling in various applications forms from your own personal computer using validated cards fully integrated in the electronic procedures of casework etc.

Transparency
In addition to yielding a better and more efficient public service the increased deployment of IT-technology makes way for an enhanced transparency in public administration to citizens. For example the county of North Jutland is running sub projects providing access to eg. in- and outbound mail lists with new and enhanced search facilities.

Security is A1 Priority
No matter what type of electronic services we are dealing with it, is extremely important that citizens can trust the security of the electronic services offered. The above-mentioned DDN projects have are inherently incorporating the security aspects in their solutions, and with the Ministry of Science recently granting a free digital signature for all Danish citizens, security should be provided for, and the way should be paved for making digital administration a feature just as common as for example Danes using home banking.

Right now a lot of interesting projects are in the make to offer quick, convenient and secure services to the citizens of North Denmark. Read more about each project.
